Dr. McLaughlin: I am Dr. Tracey McLaughlin and I work at Stanford University in the Department of Medicine where I am an Assistant Professor. I am in the division of endocrinology and metabolism and I am half clinical, treating diabetes, and the other half is clinical research and diabetes and obesity. I have a Masters degree in Public Health and in Epidemiology as well. How does type I diabetes affect insulin production?Dr. McLaughlin: Type 1 diabetes leads to destruction of the cells that make the insulin. So eventually the patient makes no insulin at all.
